Campingaz Quickbed Single Air Bed

The range of air beds available in the market is quite overwhelming from the most basic types, like the Aero bed – a simple one chamber mattress to multiple chambers, multiple layers of foam, pillow top features, etc with all sorts of options like the matching box springs, foundations and digital remotes. Therefore, we have made an earnest attempt to review some of the best and the latest Air beds by researching and testing the individual features. As what will be a great start to our effort, we review Campingaz Quickbed Single Air Bed to see how it adds to your comfort level.

About Campingaz:

Campingaz was born as a brand in 1949 and ever since has been offering quality solutions to camping needs. From the beach to the campsite, from the hill to the garden, Campingaz’s wide range of products including air beds have stood the test of times and continued to attract consumers at reasonable prices.

Design and features:

The Campingaz Quickbed Single Air Bed (Product code: 69192) is a comfortable and reliable inflatable single bed designed for camping and as a spare bed for use outdoors. These airbeds are quite light, as we took it in our carry on luggage and felt it was not that heavy. This one is a popular model, in that the Inflatable Bed is made of durable, non-allergenic poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) with thickness of 0.33mm and is also puncture resistant. One can be really assured that the strength of the air bed is second to none and could endure a lot of use.

The air bed is finished in a bright blue colour with room for one adult to sleep comfortably. The air bed can be quickly inflated when you need to and at other times deflated and kept aside without the bed consuming too much space.

Flocked PVC on the top:

The air bed comes with a Flocked PVC surface on the top having thickness of 0.53mm. The flock effect gives you real comfort without the costs and prevents the cold feeling that non-flocked airbeds seem to have. This effect is simply achieved by applying an adhesive to the PVC which is passed through a machine where fibres are distributed and the fibres adhere to the PVC. Another advantage of the flocked top layered with poly fiber is that it becomes a soft, anti-slip top material and prevents sheets from slipping. A tough PVC base only adds to increased protection.

Airtight system:

A good point is that it keeps the air in well with only slightly amount of air loss after several weeks of use, as the air bed is fitted with an exclusive Airtight system that guarantees a leak-free, inflatable bed unlike other beds and ensures that the bed stays firmly when you inflate it.

Double Lock valve:

The air bed is sealed with a ‘patented Double LockTM valve’ that helps lock in air two ways and provides a fabulous night’s sleep with no loss of pressure. Deflation is pretty easy and while you are on the bed, you can simply release the valve to gradually sink in. Testing the air bed a couple of times, we found that the bed stayed up all night, so no more waking up in the early hours of sleep to find yourself lying on the floor!

Internal Coil structure:

The Campingaz Quickbed Single air bed comes with an internal coil structure that gives you the much needed firmness and support to your back when you sleep on. The coils are tubes of PVC that develop internal upright supports. They are heat welded to the top and the bottom of the air bed and create columns of support across the complete air bed. The bottom line is that the coils do not stick in the body and that means greater comfort for a more relaxing sleep!

Repair kit:

There is a repair kit included with the product should you need to fix any small holes. It is however unlikely that you will require the repair kit because the bed is quite resilient and durable. The air bed does not come fully assembled and is delivered in a few boxes that you have to put together yourself.

Available sizes:

The air bed is available in two sizes namely single and double. The Single air bed features a dimension of 188 cm (L) x 74 cm (W) x 19cm (H), while the The X’tra Quickbed Double Airbed (Product code: 200973) measures 198 (L) x 137 (W) x 19cm (H) which is perfect for two people and taller persons.

Warranty:

The Campingaz Quickbed Single Air Bed is backed by a 12 month manufacturer warranty.

Use & Care:

As the air bed is made of heavy-duty vinyl, it is non-stainable and can be cleaned up with soap and water or using mild household cleaners. Do not make use of strong chemicals to clean the air bed. Always allow the air bed to air dry completely after you clean it up and before storing.

Drawbacks:

Without question, the biggest complaint about the air bed is that a hand pump has to be purchased separately and though inflating is really easy enough, there is the risk that you may over or under inflate it. The air bed does not have a safety valve to ensure that. If you under inflate it, you will feel discomfort and over inflation may sometimes lead to accident, but once blown, we found it very comfortable. Some customers even recommend that it should be blown up with a foot pump or an electric air pump as there is not a one way valve to prevent the air coming out.

At no point does the manufacturer’s description state that you require having an adapter to fit their ‘patented Double Lock valve’. Neither have they mentioned that you require either the Campingaz 4D Quickpump Campingaz or Coleman 12V Quickpump to be able to pump it up, so expect to shell out some money for a pump as well. We recommend the manufacturer that the air bed is sold with a pump as it is a wide fitting and we had problems finding a suitable pump to fit. Another downside is that it does not come with a case or bag for storage and transportation.

Final thoughts:

The bed has a nice height and can fit tent sizes for outdoor use. It takes less than 3 minutes to inflate and under a minute to deflate it. The air bed seems to fold pretty flat and can be packed away easily. Perhaps the selling factor as many consumers have pointed out is that it is easy to seal and the double lock valve meant no escaping of air, making camping so much more enjoyable. If you are on a budget and need a single air bed, then this one could fit the bill perfectly!
